WHAT IS AN AUSTRALIAN CAVOODLE?

Australian Cavoodles are a relatively new breed so its no surprise that you may not have heard much about them. I believe we are one of the first breeders to have this mix in our program. In fact, I only know of one other breeder that has raised this breed! However, that’s not to say that there are not others out there that I haven’t heard of.

An Australian Cavoodle (AKA Australian Cavapoo) is the combination of an Australian Labradoodle (a cross of Lab, Poodle, and Spaniel) and either a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or a Cavapoo.

There is absolutely NO Australian Shepherd (Aussie) in this cross. The “Australian” in their name comes from the Australian Labradoodle which originated in Australia, giving it it’s name.

WHY CROSS THE TWO?

Well, its a funny story actually! Our first litter of Australian Cavoodles was actually unplanned (if you know my stud muffin Porter who has recently retired, then you’ll understand HAHA), but after raising the litter and watching them mature with their families, I knew this was a cross I wanted to continue. They are gentle natured, smart, playful, and social - making them great for even the first time dog owner! Due to their small size and lower exercise requirements, they also do well in apartments. Plus, they are the perfect sized travel partner!

HOW MUCH EXERCISE DO THEY REQUIRE?

As with all dogs, they need mental and physical stimulation to keep them happy and healthy! However, due to their relatively lower need for exercise, they do not require endless hours of play. A game of fetch, a romp in the yard, or a few short walks a day generally do the trick!

ARE AUSTRALIAN CAVOODLES EASY TO TRAIN?

They are very smart and eager to please. No surprise there, just look at their parent breeds! Basic training should begin as soon as you bring your Australian Cavoodle puppy home. Both the Poodle and the Cavalier can be somewhat sensitive so it is important to not use harsh training methods.

ARE THEY GOOD FAMILY DOGS?

Yes, Australian Cavoodles do make good family dogs with their social, playful, snuggly personalities. They are known to be quite in tune with their humans emotions. Australian Cavoodles do best in a home where they are not left alone all day.

Australian Cavoodles also get along well with other pets!

COAT TYPES

Australian Cavoodles typically will have a wavy or curly coat. Depending on the parents, straight and unfurnished coats are also possible, but we do not breed for these coat types. You can visit our “What is an Australian Labradoodle” and “What is a Cavapoo” breed pages for examples of coat types.

DO THEY SHED?

In general, our Australian Cavoodles will be low to non-shedding - especially in our Cavapoo x Australian Labradoodle crosses. Our Cavalier x Australian Labradoodle crosses may be slightly more likely, though it should still be a small amount.

HOW MUCH DO AUSTRALIAN CAVOODLES COST?

Our puppies range from $1,500-$2,000.

HOW BIG ARE AUSTRALIAN CAVOODLES FULL GROWN?

Our Australian Cavoodles come in two different sizes, though most of our litters will be a range between the two!

Tiny: 8-14lbs

Mini: 15-25lbs

WHY SHOULD I GET AN AUSTRALIAN CAVOODLE?

If you are looking for a smaller, happy go lucky dog that is gentle, yet playful then an Australian Cavoodle may be for you! Like their parent breeds, they are easy to train - making them a great choice for even a first time dog owner. They don’t require a lot of space and have a relatively low energy level which also makes them suitable for apartment life (as long as they get to play and/or go for walks). Whether you are a couch potato or enjoy going on adventures, they will be right their by your side!

However, if you are not home often, then this social, loving breed might not be the best breed fit for you.
