Reputable Cavapoo Breeder?
HOW TO FIND A CAVAPOO PUPPY FOR SALE?
A few years ago you probably would’ve flipped through your local classifieds or asked your vet if they knew where to find a Cavapoo breeder. The thought of looking online would've seemed crazy! Maybe even impossible! Luckily, that is no longer the case and it has became the most common way to find a breeder. By having Google at our fingertips it has become SO much easier!
So, you have decided that you want your puppy and if you’re like many, then you probably want him or her NOW. However, it is important to do your research and make sure you are buying from a reputable breeder and not just buying the first cute puppy you see. Sadly, there are lots of breeders that are only in it for the money and giving little thought or care to their adult dogs and puppies. Since COVID, there has also been an influx of scammers who are ready to take advantage of those who are ready to adopt a Cavapoo puppy.
WHERE TO FIND A CAVAPOO BREEDER NEAR ME?
I get it, you might not want to travel 10+ hours to get the perfect puppy. One great thing about the world we live in is that you no longer “have” to settle for a breeder nearby if you don’t want to travel a long distance to get your puppy OR have him shipped cargo on a plane. Many breeders offer a flight nanny service (where someone flies in cabin with your puppy) or a ground transportation service (where someone drives your puppy straight to your door). So, just keep in mind that if you have found a puppy, breeder, and program that you love… You do NOT have to settle for a puppy that is closer to you just because of the distance.
All that being said, make sure that your breeder is willing to send you pictures, videos, and/or FaceTime you! As sad as it is, do NOT forget that there are people out that will try and scam you and feel no remorse after.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A REPUTABLE CAVAPOO BREEDER?
A breeder that health tests their parent dogs. While testing cannot fully eliminate the risk of all diseases, it can help prevent many of them! Especially if they are doing the specific testing “recommended” for their breed(s).
A breeder that is willing to answer all of those questions and more! They should be happy to talk to you about their program and their dogs that they have worked so hard on. If they seem uninterested or get upset with your questions, then this is a red flag.
A breeder that asks YOU questions, either literally or through a puppy questionnaire. Raising puppies is a lot of work and many breeders pour their heart and sole into raising their puppies. A reputable breeder will want to know where their puppy is going and won’t give him or her to the first person that is ready to buy.
A breeder should be willing to FaceTime or at a minimum send pictures and videos of the puppies. Anyone who is not willing to do this is most likely a scammer.
A good breeder will keep their puppies on a deworming schedule and up to date on vaccines.
A breeder that is knowledgeable about their breed(s) AND their own dogs.
A breeder with a website. Most good breeders will have a website to showcase their dogs, puppies, and knowledge to those looking for a puppy.
A breeder that will take a puppy (no matter the age) that they produced back if the adopter can no longer keep him or her.
A breeder that socializes their puppies! This is SO important because the first few months of a puppies life will begin to shape them into the adult dog that they will grow up to be.
A breeder that has a contract. Typically most responsible breeders will have a contract for you to sign prior to taking your puppy home. This generally has info on the puppy, parents, expectations of you as a puppy owner (keeping your puppy UTD on vaccines, inside as a family pet, spayed/neutered by a specific age, etc), and a health guarantee. Responsible breeders will also add that if at anytime you can no longer care for your dog that he or she should come back to them and they will help you find another qualified home for him/her. They will be willing to let you review the contract PRIOR to you placing a deposit.
HOW MUCH DOES A CAVAPOO COST?
The cost of a Cavapoo will vary by breeder and what they have to offer. Most well-bred Cavapoos from a breeder that health tests parents, socializes their puppies, and really prepares them for the big world will cost anywhere from $2,500-$4,000. It is important to take everything mentioned above into consideration when buying a puppy and not just basing it on the cost. Yes, you can probably find a Cavapoo for $1,000, but take into consideration how they answered the questions above. Just because it seems like you are getting a “good deal” now does not mean that it will be in the long run. For example, a puppy that came from unhealth tested parents may require expensive vet care in the future that could’ve been prevented by knowing their parent dogs genetics.
