ABD VS AMD
AUSTRALIAN BERNEDOODLE VS AUSSIE MOUNTAIN DOODLE - WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?
These two are probably one of the more confusing doodle mixes out there, along with the Australian Labradoodle itself (we’ll get there)! If you’re like most, then you may have thought that they were just different names for the same doodle cross. However, the only thing that they actually have in common is the Bernedoodle! Confusing, right?
What is an Aussie Mountain Doodle?
An Aussie Mountain Doodle (AMD), also known as an Australian Mountain Doodle, is the combination of a Bernese Mountain Dog, Australian Shepherd, and a Poodle. In most cases, the parent dogs will be a Bernedoodle and an Aussiedoodle, but some breeders may outcross with a full Bernese or Aussie.
Aussie Mountain Doodles are friendly, intelligent dogs who thrive with regular exercise and/or mental stimulation and human interaction.
They are typically easy to train, but consistency is key! In general, they will require a fair amount of exercise and mental stimulation to keep them happy and healthy. They make great family dogs and would do best in a fairly active home.
What is an Australian Bernedoodle?
An Australian Bernedoodle (ABD) is the combination of a Bernedoodle an Australian Labradoodle, which is a combination of the Labrador Retriever, Poodle, and Cocker Spaniel (though some older lines may also include the Irish Water Spaniel and/or Curly Coat Retriever). The Australian Labradoodle originated in Australia (hence the name) in the 1980s.
Australian Bernedoodles are typically a happy go lucky, mellow breed that doesn’t require an excessive amount of exercise. They aim to please, making them quite easy to train. They are gentle and loyal making them great family dogs.
